Public transport changes in Dārziņi from 6 July to provide more frequent service

From 6 July, a new public transport network will be introduced in the Dārziņi neighbourhood. As part of these changes, bus route 18 will become a feeder service connecting Dārziņi with the Ķengarags Mobility hub. The route will operate every day at 12–15-minute intervals, compared with the current 35–45-minute intervals on weekdays and 60-minute intervals on weekends.

At the Ķengarags Mobility hub, passengers will be able to transfer conveniently to tram and trolleybus services. On weekdays, trams and trolleybuses towards the city centre will operate every 2–5 minutes. The mobility point will also provide connections to bus routes serving Purvciems, Mežciems, Jugla and Sarkandaugava.

From September, selected trips on bus route 18 will be extended to Prūšu iela and Latgales iela, making it more convenient for students to travel to and from educational institutions in the Ķengarags neighbourhood.

Following the changes, bus route 18 will operate as a feeder route linking Dārziņi with the Ķengarags Mobility hubt. Within Dārziņi, the route will operate as a one-way circular service (clockwise), ensuring even service intervals throughout the neighbourhood while maintaining a level of public transport accessibility comparable to the current service.

This means that passengers will no longer need to plan their daily journeys so precisely around the timetable. In many cases, they will be able to leave for the bus stop up to 30 minutes later than before while still arriving at their destination at approximately the same desired time.

The Ķengarags Mobility hub will bring together tram routes 7 and 14, trolleybus route 15, and bus routes 31, 45 and 49 in one location. Transfers between the feeder route and other public transport services will take place on the same platform, eliminating the need for additional walking between stops.

As part of the network changes, the current bus route 15 will be renumbered as Bus Route 45 and will operate between Jugla and Ķengarags, using Stirnu iela through Purvciems. Service frequency will remain unchanged. The route number has been changed to avoid confusion with trolleybus route 15 at the Ķengarags Mobility hub.

Changes will also be introduced to Bus Route 31. From 6 July, it will operate between Jugla and Ķengarags, also using Stirnu iela through Purvciems. Service frequency will remain unchanged. This adjustment will improve public transport accessibility in a more densely populated area with schools, shops and other important everyday destinations.

To ensure convenient travel towards the city centre after the changes are introduced, additional early morning departures will be added to the weekend timetable for trolleybus route 15.

In addition to improving public transport accessibility, the changes will also reduce noise and air pollution in the Dārziņi neighbourhood. Bus Route 18 will be operated exclusively by electric buses. To support their operation, a fast-charging station has been installed at the Ķengarags Mobility hub.
